The Kitchen Witch Blog: An Introduction To What This Blog Is About, Why We're Introducing It And How You'll Benefit From It!

As a child she was always fascinated by plants, herbs, flowers, rocks, sticks, and anything that had to do with drying flowers, grinding leaves, making things out of leaves and getting creative with sticks she found. This flourished into something more than she could have ever imagined. It flourished into a business. It flourished into a way of life and a way of being.

Good Morning witchy friend, confidant and elaborate manifestor!

Sunny wanted to include this blog as a series for Emerging Reiki to inspire, educate and elevate others through the life and powerful benefits of plants. Sunny’s been taking plant medicines, herbs, tinctures and supplements for a while and knows a lot about the healing properties of plants.

Before she was given the re-branded identity of Emerging Reiki from Spirit, well before the company was incorporated and before she became known as Creative Manifestation Officer (our version of a CEO) of Emerging Reiki Coaching Inc., Sunny worked in a little market in downtown Calgary where she learned about Reiki, plants, Epsom salts and other energy tools.
I remember walking into the market and seeing this colourful table with a sign that read ‘Tarot Readings’ with the price below. The lady behind the colourful display of bath bombs, incense and handmade teas was wearing a beautiful teal shawl and a Starbucks tea on her table. She asked me If I needed any help. At the end of our conversation, she mentioned they were looking for vendors for their market and invited me to be a vendor.

After receiving her Reiki certification in 2015, Emerging Reiki was previously known as Healing Properties, and Sunny would make natural (and mostly organic) healing vegan soaps, infused with love, Reiki energy, essential oils and of course, plants for the skin and soul. She learned a lot about plants and began tapping into her witchy side EVEN MORE.
This is where I got super crafty and began making soaps and that lovely woman and Psychic Medium introduced me to Reiki. She saw superpowers in me at the time, that I did not see myself.

At the time, I didn’t even really know what Reiki was, or what it meant for that matter... but I knew it showed up in my life for a reason. We exchanged a brief conversation (about Reiki) and after three, 3-4 hour days, I was certified as a Usui Reiki Master Practitioner.

Sunny’s always loved lavender and the beautiful purple hues that come with it - so, one of her first soaps (after many, many test runs, was appropriately named “Relax ME”, containing pure lavender essential oils and natural pigment colours.

After getting many batches incorrectly and using them in her own shower, she came up with colourful soaps containing Poppy seeds which added a nice, soft exfoliant and looked super pretty with the natural vibrant colours.

I’m all about the natural stuff, and I love organic products myself, so when I was making these, I wanted to use as many natural and organic ingredients as possible, to offer quality soaps, made with love.

From soaps, came bath salts infused with plants, herbs and essential oils, that contained a crystal for each kind of bath salt. This passion for making things comes to Sunny easily through the passions she had as a child, and a lot of the practices she held, if you can even call them that, she says jokingly.

I had a whole collection of rocks by the time I was 6 years of age, and. that collection grew, and grew and grew. And we moved and I collected new rocks. Not much has changed.
— Sunny

Sunny settling into her new home and organizing crystals that were packed away in a large mason jar, spread out on the floor, with Sunny’s hand sorting through, deciding where to put each one. Sometimes, she puts a few into a vintage irridescent “pot” she has. It’s beautiful when each of the rocks catch the sun’s rays.

In 2018, she became dedicated to learning about plants and had someone approach her about potentially trading services. This person taught her about superfoods, cacao, medicinal mushrooms, plants, herbs, roots and flowers that are good for the soul, in exchange for a web design.

She continues this sacred path in learning about herbs, knowing about plant medicines and truly how beneficial they are to this day. They have helped her feel more connected with herself, the Earth and Mother Gaia and Sunny is here to share her stories, findings and learnings here with you in this blog, so you can know about the benefits of these plants, herbs and medicines too.

The Kitchen Witch Blog Is About…

  • Spreading and sharing knowledge of plant medicines.

  • The Healing Properties of each plant, root, stem, flower, herb, tincture, fungi or bark.

  • Honouring the plants, the Earth, Mother Gaia and the knowledge that was here before us.

How this knowledge and wisdom will help you thrive:

  • How these plants can benefit your life and your existence as a human.

  • How certain plants can be used in your creations, whether it’s Cooking, Baking, Epsom Salts, Oils, Tinctures or Topicals (lotions, salves..etc).

  • How plants and plant medicines can be a guide in your healing journey.

  • Helping you tap into your witchiness.

  • And many more benefits that you will soon realize and see as the blog grows (like mindful foraging, growing, living your healthiest life and MORE).

The intention of this blog is to share plant knowledge, awareness and wisdom with mindfulness to the plants, land, Gaia and the Indigenous Tribes and Original Peoples of this land. In my own personal opinion and belief; Indigenous folks are the sacred keepers of plant information and wisdom. It's important that we as a whole be mindful of our practices to not cause further harm and help restore the lands, forests and environment. Find, cultivate and create more sustainable practices and of course, my favourite mantra before doing anything is: "all with love and none with harm". I say this before a reading, before a Callective Session, before a Coaching call and before really doing anything. Asking a plant permission to pick (if you are foraging) and not picking from the first bunch, bush or area are all mindful practices that I've learned from Indigenous TikTok. For example, if you're foraging, and you come across a plant you'd like to pick, ensure there are others and pick form the third one. Picking mindfully and leaving for others to experience is also a mindful practice, while knowing HOW to harvest so the plants can grow back and produce more. This practice is mindful as well as sustainable. One of my favourite foragers on instagram is Alexis Nikole, also known as @BLACKFORAGER. Please go visit their page for more insights, plant love and black realness. Alexis Nikole is a wealth of knowledge and information and in my opinion, one of the most mindful and creative foragers, not to mention funny!
